Harvick supports Kids Café

One of Kernersville’s most famous residents, NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick, was on hand at First Baptist Church (FBC) Monday evening to make a special presentation to Kids Café, a local youth mentoring program.

Harvick, along with his wife DeLana, a life-long Kernersville resident, presented $3,000 to go toward computers for students at Kids Café.

A team of hope

Since 2006, Betty Ann Brandis, of East Forsyth High School (EFHS), has captained the EFHS Relay for Life team.

Brandis, an eight year cancer survivor, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in July 2004.

Brandis said the news of her diagnosis was not only shocking, but life-changing as well.

Teddys for Smiles

Hailey Tapp, 11-years-old, has spent more than her fair share of time at Brenner Children’s Hospital over the course of the last 10 months. Most of the time she deals with her visits with a smile on her face. Other times aren’t so easy.

Hailey was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease last spring after having experienced abnormal stomach pains and weight loss. It took several trips to the hospital and blood tests at the hospital to find out what was wrong.

Walkertown High School opens

The halls and classrooms of Walkertown High School (WHS) have exceeded anything students imagined their new school would look like.

The high school’s inaugural class of ninth and 10^th graders arrived for their first day of classes on the campus Tuesday morning and by lunch time students were happily finding their way around.
